Book of Condolence for Former Governor-General

A Condolence Book will be opened at the Jamaican High Commission, 1-2 Prince Consort Road, London, SW7 2BZ for the former Governor-General, the late Sir Howard Cooke, ON, GCMG, GCVO, CD, who died on 11th  July 2014 in Kingston.

The Book will be opened from Wednesday, 23rd July to Friday, 25th July, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  and 2:00 p.m. to  4:00 p.m.

Sir Howard served as Governor General of Jamaica from 1st August 1991 until 15th February 2006 when he became the first Governor-General to invest his own successor, Professor Kenneth Hall, ON, GCMG, OJ.

Sir Howard was a teacher; becoming President of the then Jamaica Union of Teachers. He became a Member of the Parliament of the West Indies Federation in 1958, and was a Senator and a Member of the House of Representatives after Independence in 1962.
